From dirt to soil, the process of life from earth

When we arrive at the point of deciding whether or not to grow anything at all, We must first conclude that our soil is or is not acceptable. but instead of a simple yes or no, we must look much deeper (maybe even with a microscope if you wanted deeper). several visual cues may clue you in to some basics, texture, color, the way weeds grow are some. however the science of soil is so sophisticated that if you dont have it youve got just dirt. real soil is healthy because its alive, in fact its teeming with microfauna. the backbone of all that life is assuredly sustained primarily by a relationship between humus and dirt which makes soil. pound for pound the humus stains the dirt and releases sustained balanced nutrition.

Soil composition basics

With all real soil the basic substrate is minerals, or dirt. The majority of farmers have to know what they are missing and apply it in available form to grow a decent crop. you cannot avoid considering the basic geology of your location in order to predict the quality of your native soil. what kind of elements do you generally have, are absent, or even toxic. sometimes all that is wrong is the availability of things you already have is low because a low or high ph value.

soil texture basics

The most common test to determine a type of soil quality is to consider texture. shaking a test tube with a spoon full of dirt can separate sand, silt, and clay. then you have the opportunity to visually inspect the bands to determine quantity of each. this factor of what type of dirt you have will determine which types of crops will grow in your soil easily. changing soil texture is what we do when we add stuff to make raised beds. the most generally preferred portions of sand silt and clay are an equal third each. this would be a "perfect" loam which is a desired dirt for most crops

Happy Gardener

So what is Topsoil Really?

my favorite part: humus, or soil organic material made from long chains of mostly carbon, is the most dynamic portion of soil, and without that fraction where the action happens, you really just have dirt. in fact your soil matrix may be toxic or inadequate by the lack of this skeleton which glues the whole big picture together. humus is what's left behind after all the organisms finish eating their share of the mulch. mulch is just fresh organic material which you can tell loosely what its made of. rice hulls, wood bark, even peat moss are all not broken down and need to be digested into compost to release their components freely, humus is the pure byproduct of all their decomposition. which is vital in importance to understand. they are not equivalent, although both are important in soil

About us

Real hard working hippies

For over thirty years Coffmans Landscaping has serviced the greater Glenn County area with diligence and determination. Maintaining landscapes we created through inspiration to try new things. Innovative trials of perennials from other friendly nurserymen familiarized us on the growth habits and inclination of some plants to take over and spread. So we started the Garden Guys Nursery as a sort of cycling house, where we propagated our selections from clients yards. So with excess comes experience based insight into how you too can mix and match new layers, dimensions and themes to enrich the majesty of your own backyard or business as have so many of our diverse customer base. This is the first real website for us. One to ship plants to people looking for things we've got in store. A dream come true would be to get to the audience which desires to live off the land in a way. Sustainability is having most of the things that you like or need in abundance. Be it flowers or food, you can make a living or some of it with things you love. Those big winners of saving money will even work for you while you sleep, or work on other things. So we are new to shipping plants, and we externally still have a solid schedule of lawn care maintainable which splits our time. But we are happy to work with you all. Just give us some patience and time to get running.
